Allocation of advertising space by a web service provider using combinatorial auctions

چکیده
Advertising is a critical process for promoting both products and services in global trade. Internet has emerged as a powerful medium for trade and commerce. Online advertising over the internet has increased more than hundredfold since 2001. In the present work, we address problems faced by online advertisement service providers. In this paper, we propose a multi-slot and multi-site combinatorial auction for allocating scarce advertisement slots available on multiple sites. We observe that combinatorial auctions serve as effective mechanisms for allocating advertising slots over the internet. We resort to “ant” systems (ant – social insect/intelligent agent) to solve the above NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem which involves winner-determination in multi-item and multi-unit combinatorial auctions.

Development of a Genetic Algorithm for Advertising Time Allocation Problems
Commercial advertising is the main source of income for TV channels and allocation of advertising time slots for maximizing broadcasting revenues is the major problem faced by TV channel planners. In this paper, the problem of scheduling advertisements on prime-time of a TV channel is considered. The problem is formulated as a multi-unit combinatorial auction based mathematical model. This is a...
متن کاملWinner Determination in Combinatorial Auctions using Hybrid Ant Colony Optimization and Multi-Neighborhood Local Search
A combinatorial auction is an auction where the bidders have the choice to bid on bundles of items. The WDP in combinatorial auctions is the problem of finding winning bids that maximize the auctioneer’s revenue under the constraint that each item can be allocated to at most one bidder. The WDP is known as an NP-hard problem with practical applications like electronic commerce, production manag...
متن کاملAn Optimization Framework for Combining the Petroleum Replenishment Problem with the Optimal Bidding in Combinatorial Auctions
We address in this paper a periodic petroleum station replenishment problem (PPSRP) that aims to plan the delivery of petroleum products to a set of geographically dispatched stations. It is assumed that each station is characterized by its weekly demand and by its frequency of service. The main objective of the delivery process is to minimize the total travelled distance by the vailable trucks...
متن کاملAuction protocols
The word “auction” generally refers to a mechanism for allocating one or more resources to one or more parties (or bidders). Generally, once the allocation is determined, some amount of money changes hands; the precise monetary transfers are determined by the auction process. While in some auction protocols, such as the English auction, bidders repeatedly increase their bids in an attempt to ou...
متن کاملFinding Bidder-Optimal Core Points Quickly
In complex combinatorial markets with complementary valuations, truthful auctions can yield low revenue. Core-selecting auctions attempt to boost revenue by setting prices so that no group of agents, including the auctioneer, can jointly improve their utilities by switching to a different allocation and payments. Among outcomes in the core, bidder-optimal core points have been the most widely s...
